Customers come to First Wing Flight to learn to fly for a variety of reasons and they come from a variety of backgrounds and age levels. Our goal is to give the customer excellent instruction and value in a safe and comfortable environment.

At the same time, we also value and support all employees and strive to make the work environment a safe and rewarding experience. Instructors are hired on a part-time basis and compensated based on hours of instruction given. This includes both flight and ground instruction given to the customer. Employees are eligible for discounted aircraft rental and instruction rates.

Able to speak, read and communicate in English
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have a valid driver's license
Must have a FAA Flight Instructor certification (CFI) for single engine land airplane
A Flight Instructor single engine instrument (CFII) is desirable
Must have a current FAA medical.
Previous flight instruction experience is desirable
Must have ability to teach customers from a variety of backgrounds and age levels.
Must have thorough knowledge of the Airman Certification Standards (ACS)
Duties & Responsibilities
Make safety the number one priority in all teaching decisions
Ensure a comfortable, pleasant and enthusiastic learning environment for the customer. This may include: meeting customers, giving tours of the facility or aircraft, performing discovery flights and helping with flight school promotion and marketing to attract customers
Teach flight curricula in accordance with FAA Part 61 regulations in the classroom, flight simulator and aircraft
Determine and record customer proficiency and course progress
Maintain all appropriate records including but not limited to customer training records, logbooks, endorsements and computer records
Assist customers in scheduling and obtaining an FAA flight physical, student pilot license, written license exam and final flight check ride.
Assist customers in locating addition online educational materials.
Assist in finding and reporting maintenance deficiencies to First Wing maintenance department. This includes making go/no go flight decisions placing safety as the first priority
Maintain regular communication with the customer including follow-up with the customer if they haven't scheduled on a regular basis.
Attend flight instructor development and communication meetings.
Help customers develop and modify personal weather minimums
Maintain personal currency including but not limited to flight medicals, flight currency, CFI certification and TSA security requirements.
First Wing Flight maintains a clean, modern facility for the customer and employee. Aircraft are likewise kept as a in the same condition to enhance an efficient and desirable learning and teaching environment.
Employment is part-time and hours are irregular depending on customer demand and weather conditions. Two flight instruction areas are available in the building for ground instruction. A Redbird flight simulator is also available to mitigate weather conditions. Almost all of the First Wing Flight aircraft are equipped and maintained to IFR standards.
Flight instruction will be performed inside and outside the facility. Outside instruction will involve a variety of weather conditions and noisy work conditions.
